How It Works
The KiC-Anki method of self-studying kanji has three steps that the student must complete each day. First, the student looks over the day’s unit in the Kanji in Context: Revised Edition textbook. Next, they drill kanji using the Anki electronic flashcard application loaded with the KiC-Anki deck. For each card, the student should write out the kanji on a piece of scrap paper and sound out the readings. Finally, the student completes the day’s unit in the Kanji in Context workbook. Students hoping to complete KiC-Anki in two years should expect to spend two hours a day studying (although this schedule can be modified).
- Identify patterns for the day’s unit in the textbook.
- Drill the day’s kanji using Anki and a piece of scrap paper.
- Complete the day’s unit in the workbook.
KiC-Anki is designed for the pre-intermediate learner who has completed the equivalent of two years of college level Japanese (Genki I and II or Minna no Nihongo should suffice). If that’s not you, don’t worry! We have quality self-study materials for beginners as well.
